Im Zwischenraum des utopischen Gedächtnisses
The exhibition transforms the Late Modernist exhibition pavilion, built in 1973, into a sculpture. Sabine Hornig's installation on the façade unfolds a 43-meter-long picture spread that fuses demonstration scenes, residential building types from the building's construction period, and functional architectures from the history of German democracy. Demolition scenes from the reversed development of the modern city are mixed with historical moments in which public buildings become a silent stage for democratic beginnings. This kaleidoscope is contrasted with segments of Baroque and Neoclassical Potsdam. The identity of our city becomes recognizable as an amalgamated, artificial construction in which we decide anew each day what Modernism's promise of equality means for us - and how we position ourselves in an unleashed patchwork of nostalgia and utopia, social functionality and theatrical pathos.
