Vessel & Voyager
Hanseatenweg
“Vessel & Voyager” is the new exhibition project of the JUNGE AKADEMIE, the international and interdisciplinary fellowship programme of the Akademie der Künste. In the Akademie building on Hanseatenweg, 25 artists present new works created in the context of their residencies. As they explore spaces for artistic creation and action in times of multiple, escalating crises, they address themes of loss and memory, body and healing, protection and community. The exhibition features photographs, prints, collages, video works, spatial and sound installations, sculptures, drawings and assemblages. At a symposium to be held on 17 April, questions surrounding art, ecology and gender will be discussed in relation to the exhibited works. An event on 25 April will feature performances, concerts and readings as part of the programme.
The title “Vessel & Voyager” is inspired by the motif of vessels (containers) and voyagers (travellers) that is prevalent across different artistic, cultural and spiritual contexts. The exhibition uses ‘vessel’ in the sense of a container that holds, transmits and constantly transforms different narratives, messages and voices. ‘Voyager’, in turn, stands for travellers who forge connections between places, generations and times. Reflecting on these motifs, the works combine to form an exhibition that reflects the present time and renegotiates questions of cultural transmission, responsibility and vulnerability as foundations of artistic creation.
