The Green Spill
Sophie Erlund's exhibition The Green Spill revolves around her current mixed-reality virtual experience (XR) work of the same name.
The Green Spill is an immersive experience in extended reality headsets (XR) and three bright-coloured, quasi human-size sculptures, which act as a home base for each headset, and also function as benches to sit on.
In the headsets a narrator guides the visitor through three distinct ’worlds’ called the biological self, the neurological self, and the technological self— on a journey that examines the human condition, our evolving relationship with the natural world, and the deep tensions between our physical bodies and the digital realms we inhabit.
Between October 31st till November 2nd, 2025, the XR installation The Green Spill will be on display at the Neue Nationalgalerie as part of the Festival of Future Nows 2025, while new paper and glass works by Sophie Erlund as well as visual and theoretical insights to The Green Spill will be on display at PSM.
The opening weekend therefore offers to visit both venues, while from November 4th till December 20, 2025, the XR installation can also be experienced in our gallery space.
