Rachel Youn transforms discarded objects into dynamic kinetic sculptures, that sway between performing perfection and embracing failure. By mending outdated technical devices like massage appliances and combining them with fake plastic plants, Youn's sculptures receive a second life, adopting an anthropomorphic form that mirrors human emotions. Although engaging with the viewer in a social manner, they remain part of the material world created by humans and cannot aspire to become human themselves. Thus, they exist in an in-between world, simultaneously embodying genuine emotion while also remaining inherently fake.
