Spectrum Mundi

Heinz Mack, who celebrated his 95th birthday this year, is one of the most important artists of his generation: a co-founder of the ZERO movement and an early representative of Land Art. At Berlin’s Kulturforum, he designed the former Piazzetta, which since 2024 has been known as Johanna-and-Eduard-Arnhold-Platz. At St. Matthäus Church, he is presenting his new series of works, „Spectrum Mundi“, 24 chromatic constellations created in 2025 and 2026. They open up a multi-layered spectrum of color and refer to the Latin word „spectrum“, the inner image that takes shape in the soul. His chromatic constellations do not follow a classical composition, but rather the internal logic of color itself and its resonances. Pure pigments, light, structure, and optical movement generate phenomena with an almost immaterial effect.
