Pandora's Box - An alternate dramaturgy of the past and the present or for a dystopian world
The show of the german photographer Signe Mähler and the American poet, writer and performer William Cody Maher Pandora's box opens to a world - made of sketches and notes, poems and images, video and performance - where photography and video, poetry and the performative act allow the public to witness how the account of the life of a couple mirrors their everyday life as well as the world's events. By narrating an alternate reality, using the past to understand the present and personal, intimate conversations and anecdotes to create characters and scenes, they present an accurate, yet surreal, dramatic and ironic depiction of life and its struggles and wonders; the artists depict an alternative dramaturgy of their life and life in general, a parallel version of what is happening around them and a materialization of their dreams or nightmares. Mähler and Maher work together creating personas, costumes and sceneries in their photographs while staging the intimate, dramatic yet ironic moments of their personal life, a life narrated in its blunt and burning truth in the poems which Maher conceived as timelines of events both deeply intimate and personal, made of contrasting truths and unexpected ways reality unfolds.
