The Weird and the Eerie
For his latest exhibition at Klemm’s, Renaud Regnery presents Carbon Paintings, a new series of works that combine charcoal and wallpaper on canvas. In this body of work, Regnery integrates photorealistic wallpaper directly into the material composition of the paintings. Carbon Paintings further advances Regnerys’ inquiry into the emotional and social conditions of image production. His practice approaches painting as a field of tension—one that engages with the medium’s history and critical discourses while opening up possibilities for (self-)assertion and positioning. Closely connected to this approach is Regnery’s interest in inherited social conventions, their aesthetic manifestations, and the psychological questions they entail.
