Monument of Oblivion: River of Lethe
“Who is commemorated, who is excluded, and how do we address violent histories or missing memorials? Are we engaging with the past in ways that shape the future?” Berlin-based artist Neda Saeedi’s sound installation, created especially for the Klosterruine, explores the question of how historical sites are commemorated. It consists of building site elements that form a never-ending cycle of construction and deconstruction. In an era of intense debates about monuments, the construction and dismantling of monuments is attracting a great deal of attention, says Neda Saeedi about her work. Monument of Oblivion: River of Lethe explores these tensions at a site that, as a monastery ruin, embodies both permanence and absence. Its layered history invites reflection on what is remembered and forgotten, acting as a living, evolving monument. The sculpture creates an immersive experience of collapse and renewal.
