In the past, artists like Kurt Schwitters and Hannah Höch created collages from newspaper clippings, text, and found objects. Today, this happens digitally—without scissors or glue, but with Photoshop and AI. As images can now be endlessly altered or generated, their origins and transformations become harder to trace.
Iris Helena Hamers samples memes, online prompts, and her own photos, focusing on formal composition rather than content. Her work blends organic motifs—plants, stones—with digital aesthetics, merging human creativity and algorithmic imagery.
She also explores physical space: digital layers become painted plexiglass or shaped aluminum panels, paired with tactile elements like faux fur. Her approach expands collage into new, multidimensional forms.
