Spiel mit dem Feuer
80 years after the end of the Second World War, there is renewed concern about war in Europe following Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. The lessons learnt from the horrors of past world wars seem to be increasingly fading. The fact that a large number of wars have been waged since 1945 is being lost sight of. The Hamburg Working Group for Research into the Causes of War cites the number of 238 wars worldwide between 1945 and 2007, 16 of which took place in Europe.
Precisely because war currently seems omnipresent in the media, the exhibition endeavours to focus on individual perspectives, stories and research and in this way to promote an in-depth discussion. The works by Rufina Bazlova, Steffen Blunk, Iden Sungyoung Kim, Benedikt Terwiel and the Open Group shown in the exhibition ‘Spiel mit Feuer’ (engl. Playing with Fire) at Gallery Adlershof thematise a war that is currently taking place or look back into history.
