The Mountains Of My Youth
Taking its title from Moshekwa Langa's installation, The Mountains of My Youth - A Novel (1997), Inga Somdyala’s exhibition turns to the mountain as a place where experience exceeds the moment of its occurrence, continuing to shape the ways a life is lived and a practice is formed. The works presented emerge from this enduring condition, drawing on a visual language developed over many years, where repetition, accumulation and material attention produce relationships of scale, proximity and movement. Photography, sound and installation extend this language across the exhibition, creating a sequence of encounters in which the body moves through shifting registers of memory, place and time.
